Rebate Range

How much is the Colorado heat pump rebate?

Xcel Energy (gas + electric customers in Xcel service territory): Cold-climate heat pump — $2,250 per heating ton (a 3-ton system = ~$6,750; 4-ton = ~$9,000). Standard (non-cold-climate) heat pump — $900 per cooling ton. Ground-source heat pump — $3,300 per heating ton. IMPORTANT: Xcel rebate requires customer to have an Xcel gas account. Electric-only Xcel customers do not qualify. Rebate schedule updated November 2025. Black Hills Energy (CO electric residential customers): Air-source heat pump (ducted or ductless mini-split) — $1,500 flat rebate. Efficiency requirements: ducted ≥15.20 SEER2, ≥11.9 EER2, ≥8.1 HSPF2; mini-split ≥11.7 EER2, ≥7.8 HSPF2. Valid January 1–December 31, 2026.

Xcel Energy rebate requires a gas account — electric-only customers do not qualify for Xcel heat pump rebates.

Xcel amounts are per-ton — final rebate depends on system size.

Xcel cold-climate tier ($2,250/ton) requires equipment that qualifies at 5°F operating temperature.

Black Hills Energy serves Colorado communities including Pueblo, Pueblo West, Canon City, and surrounding areas — confirm your utility at blackhillsenergy.com.

Xcel serves Denver metro, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and most of eastern Colorado.

Amounts confirmed via Bronco Breeze (CO HVAC installer) citing November 2025 Xcel rebate schedule and official Black Hills Energy rebate page.

Holy Cross Energy, United Power, and CORE Electric Cooperative may offer separate rebates — verify with your utility.

Key factors that determine your Colorado rebate

Your electric utility
Which utility serves your home (Xcel Energy, Black Hills Energy, Holy Cross Energy, etc.) determines which rebate tier applies.
Current heating fuel
Oil and propane homes typically qualify for the highest tiers. Natural gas homes usually qualify for lower amounts.
Whole-home vs. partial scope
A whole-home heat pump installation that replaces all primary heating earns the highest rebate. Supplemental or mini-split-only installs earn less.
System size in tons
Larger systems generally earn higher rebates, up to the program cap. Oversizing can disqualify equipment in some programs.
Equipment certification
Equipment must meet the program's current efficiency threshold. Verify the AHRI reference number or program-specific certification before purchase.
Income qualification
Income-qualified households may receive enhanced rebates or additional assistance. Ask your utility about documentation requirements.
