Rebate Range

How much is the Connecticut heat pump rebate?

Two tracks: (1) Standard: $250/ton, capped at $2,500 per home — applies when replacing an existing heat pump, adding to unconditioned space, or cooling-only use. (2) Energy Optimization: $1,000/ton base rate, capped at $10,000 per home — applies when fully displacing or integrating with a fossil fuel or electric resistance system as primary heat source. Enhanced rate of $1,500/ton available (from April 1, 2026) for: replacing electric resistance/baseboard systems, or income-qualified customers. Must be ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified and installed by an Energize CT Heat Pump Installer Network (HPIN) approved contractor. Applications postmarked by February 27, 2027.

Per-ton structure — final rebate depends on system size and installation tier.

Energy Optimization track requires full displacement or integration as primary heat source — partial/supplemental installs may qualify for Standard track only.

Enhanced $1,500/ton tier requires baseboard/electric resistance replacement OR income qualification — effective April 1, 2026.

Key factors that determine your Connecticut rebate

Your electric utility
Which utility serves your home (Eversource CT, United Illuminating (UI)) determines which rebate tier applies.
Current heating fuel
Oil and propane homes typically qualify for the highest tiers. Natural gas homes usually qualify for lower amounts.
Whole-home vs. partial scope
A whole-home heat pump installation that replaces all primary heating earns the highest rebate. Supplemental or mini-split-only installs earn less.
System size in tons
Larger systems generally earn higher rebates, up to the program cap. Oversizing can disqualify equipment in some programs.
Equipment certification
Equipment must meet the program's current efficiency threshold. Verify the AHRI reference number or program-specific certification before purchase.
Income qualification
Income-qualified households may receive enhanced rebates or additional assistance. Ask your utility about documentation requirements.
