Rebate Range

How much is the New Jersey heat pump rebate?

Rebate depends on your utility. PSE&G: $300–$600 standard HVAC instant rebate (cold climate: $600); Building Decarbonization (full gas replacement): $10,000 standard / $12,000 LMI. PSE&G Whole Home Energy Solutions: up to $7,500 bundled rebate (insulation, air sealing, HVAC, water heater). JCP&L: $500 (Tier 1), $750 (Tier 2), $1,000 (cold climate). Atlantic City Electric (ACE): $500–$750 standard; $2,000 cold climate promo (through December 31, 2026).

Rebate amount depends entirely on which utility serves your address — PSE&G, JCP&L, ACE, or RECO.

PSE&G Building Decarbonization ($10K–$12K) is for full gas-to-electric conversion, not a standard heat pump add-on.

ACE $2,000 cold climate promo is limited through December 31, 2026.

HEEHR (federal IRA Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates): $91M received by NJ BPU in January 2025, but program design is still in progress as of May 2026 — not yet paying rebates to homeowners.

RECO (Rockland Electric) rebates not researched in detail — verify at rocklandelectric.com.

Verified May 2026 from homeenergy.pseg.com, residential.energysavenj.com (JCP&L), and homeenergysavings.atlanticcityelectric.com.

Key factors that determine your New Jersey rebate

Your electric utility
Which utility serves your home (PSE&G, JCP&L (FirstEnergy), Atlantic City Electric (ACE), etc.) determines which rebate tier applies.
Current heating fuel
Oil and propane homes typically qualify for the highest tiers. Natural gas homes usually qualify for lower amounts.
Whole-home vs. partial scope
A whole-home heat pump installation that replaces all primary heating earns the highest rebate. Supplemental or mini-split-only installs earn less.
System size in tons
Larger systems generally earn higher rebates, up to the program cap. Oversizing can disqualify equipment in some programs.
Equipment certification
Equipment must meet the program's current efficiency threshold. Verify the AHRI reference number or program-specific certification before purchase.
Income qualification
Income-qualified households may receive enhanced rebates or additional assistance. Ask your utility about documentation requirements.
